VALORANT is a free-to-play 5v5 tactical shooter by Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics. Released in 2020, VALORANT quickly rose to popularity, peaking at three million players per day during its two-month beta.The game is a contender for esports mainstay and plays like a combination of CS:GO and Overwatch. VALORANT takes after both titles with fast-paced gameplay, unique sci-fi abilities, and high-stakes shootouts. This title is a lot of fun for those that enjoy first-person shooters and are willing to put in the hours to excel at the game.

Team Requirements

To enter a Valorant team, Schools must enter a team of;

Valorant 5v5

 Minimum : 5 Players

Maximum : 9 Players

Valorant 3v3

Minimum : 3 Players

Maximum : 5 Players

Schools can choose whether students play from school or from another location. 


Valorant is a relatively easy game to pick up if you have played the FPS genre before but takes serious dedication to improve your Skill. Valorant is offered as 2 Divisions.

Division 1 - Open to all Valorant players of any skill level 

Division 2 - Open to Valorant players who have never ranked and/or are new to the game with less than 6 Months of playing time.

Match Times and Format

Regular Season is 1 Match per week. With a total of 8 matches being played in the regular season.

Matches are first to 13 wins

Regional Finals is a Best of 3 series with playoffs being played over 6 Weeks.

National Finals are all Best of 3 series including the Championship round

Games will be played on Tuesdays at 5PM, except the Wellington region where all games start at 4PM.

Age Rating

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the New Zealand Esports Federation, Valorant now has a guide of what the age restriction should be.

Valorant is now available to all students enrolled in Secondary School education with a 'T' Rating.

Cost per Team


The cost per team entry is $175.00+GST NZD.


The cost per team entry is $105.00+GST NZD.

Victory Up will invoice the School directly and not individual students.


Even though Valorant is new to the Esports scene there is plenty of useful coaching tips, skill videos and other handy resources available online. You will find something that suits all levels of skills of your players. Victory Ups 'Training for Victory' will be readily available once HSESL starts, and consist of traditional coaching methods to apply to Esports training.

The New Zealand Esports Federation also has a wealth of knowledge available for all manner of Esports that is constantly updated.
